The current scandal over how Fox New "fooled" both the Obama Administration and the NAACP over doctored video of a speech Ms. Shirley Sherrod gave, points out a number of sad facts. One is certain, the Obama Administration still thinks Fox New is a real news outlet and not a dedicated propaganda arm of Rupert Murdock (see: http://www.dailykos.com/... Second, however, is something that is very disturbing, the Democrats are so scared of the right wing they will sacrifice their values for peace. If ever one had to guess what this administration would do under a real threat the current teapot scandal shows there is little fiber in the backs of these people. We all heard how smart and what a street fighter Rahm Emanuel was, this is now laughable. The outcome of this is that the American worker was shown how these people think about workers. They have no commitment to due process. A rumor is sufficient to fire someone.
It is obvious that the Democrats have to have some people on staff who are thoughtful and brave. The DNC needs also some clever and smart people like Howard Dean, people who know how to fight the cynical propagandists at Fox News. If there is any hope for any progressive legislation to be passed before doomsday in November we have to have the Democrats force the Republicans to filibuster. The Democrats have to stop surrendering and compromising and go ahead and force the issue while they still have majorities. The idea that "conservative" Democrats (read really, Republicans in Democrat clothing), want to save the Bush tax cuts is absurd. What people fail to also realize is that the Obama Administration has failed to fill key positions in government, they have not pushed judgeships at every level and gotten rid of Republican hold overs in the Attorney General's office. All in the interests of what, paralysis? Bipartisanship? (same thing) or just plain fear?
Before the Bush tax cuts the Clinton Administration had 93 straight months of U.S. growth, a peace time record, only topped by the 106 months of the Vietnam War buildup according to Brian Tumulty, "Economy hits record in December" Gannett New Service, Nov. 25, 1998. So much for tax cuts.
