RKBA is a DKos group of second amendment supporters who also have progressive and liberal values. We don't think that being a liberal means one has to be anti-gun. Some of us are extreme in our second amendment views (no licensing, no restrictions on small arms) and some of us are more moderate (licensing, restrictions on small arms.) Moderate or extreme, we hold one common belief: more gun control equals lost elections. We don't want a repeat of 1994. We are an inclusive group: if you see the Second Amendment as safeguarding our right to keep and bear arms individually, then come join us in our conversation. If you are against the right to keep and bear arms, come join our conversation. We look forward to seeing you, as long as you engage in a civil discussion. RKBA stands for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

No Charges Forthcoming In Shooting of Grizzly In Denali National Park and Preserve
"The man stated that he shot the bear in order to defend the life of the woman. The investigation found no evidence to contradict this assertion, and physical evidence collected by park rangers was consistent with the description of the incident provided by the hikers," park officials said. "The man was lawfully in possession of and carrying a firearm per Public Law 111-24, 123 Stat. 1764-65. The discharge of the gun and killing of the bear were violations of 36 CFR 2.4(a)(1)(iii) (using a weapon) and 36 CFR 2.2 (a)(1) (taking of wildlife)."

MEXICO CITY — Prisoners in a northern Mexico jail were allowed out at night to carry out murder-for-hire jobs using jail guards’ weapons and vehicles, officials said Sunday, revealing a level of corruption that is stunning even in a country where prison breakouts are common as guards look the other way.
The prisoners carried out three massacres this year in the city of Torreón in which 35 people were killed, Ricardo Nájera, the spokesman for the attorney general’s office, said at a news conference. Among them, the authorities said, was last week’s attack on birthday revelers at a party hall. The gang shot randomly into the crowd, they said, killing 17 people.
Ballistics studies confirmed that four guns used in the shooting were the same as those assigned to jail guards, Mr. Nájera said.
"The criminals carried out their executions as part of a settling of scores against members of rival gangs linked to organized crime," he said. "Unfortunately, in these executions the criminals also cowardly murdered innocent civilians — and then returned to their cells."

Sometimes the BGs choose to use the less conventional weapon even when armed with something more lethal. Which, IMHO, merely points even more to spending energy on solving the root causes and not on firearm prohibition. Remember that the 18th amendment didn't work against liquor...

A comment on these, and the much longer list of incidents I had to slog through where defenseless people were mere victims. A number of these criminal acts could have been foiled or at least hindered simply by locking the door. It's sad that 30-plus years of bad economic policies have led to such fertile ground for folks to attack each other; but the effort to revive the social stability of the progressive years of the Baby Boomers' childhood does NOT begin with ignoring the current state of things and acting like it's safe to leave the doors unlocked. Lock your doors, it's just good common sense.

Considering that violence existed before guns did, why do so many people imagine that doing away with guns would do away with violence?
