Just finished watching The View. I never, ever watched the show before---and had decided to wait for the "highlights", but after all the controversy that surrounded President Obama's appearance; I decided to check it out for myself.
When it was over, I has one question to ask:
Ummmm....okay what the hell was the problem with that?
A sitting U.S. president should do "serious" shows, Rendell argued yesterday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "The View" can be serious, he said, but it also "rocks and rolls a little bit." Buchanan agreed, saying there should be some "majesty" to the presidency.
Really? I am sorry Pat, but it is not 1920 anymore. I rather have a President who talks to and for the people, rather than over the people.
And I am disappointed in Gov. Rendell for not just fighting back against Buchanan's idiotic point...but rather backing it up.
Anyways, for those who were too busy with real lives here is how President Obama did (in my opinion):
President Obama answered every question with intelligence, grace and poise. He even took down Hasselbeck's Right-wing talking points without a flinch.
(Hasslebeck will be on Hannity tonight---which tells you enough about her).
Major Quotes:
Pressed to defend the military escalation in Afghanistan, in a week that began with the leak of documents detailing problems there through 2009, Mr. Obama said that he had pledged throughout his presidential campaign to end the war in Iraq but that the effort in Afghanistan, where the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, were planned, must be increased to root out terrorists and eliminate a safe haven for them.
"I’m not interested in open-ended commitment," he said, recalling that when he announced a new policy for Afghanistan last December, he said he was more interested in "nation-building" at home.

Of the criticism he receives on the television news nets, Obama said, "You know, I've got pundits on the news who may say things about me, but you think what the American people have gone through... I don't spend a lot of time worrying about me, I spend a lot of time worrying about them."
Shortly after, while responding to a question posed by Elizabeth Hasselbeck about the country feeling divided, the president remarked, "My hope is that I've tried to set a tone in the debate that says, 'Look, we can disagree without being disagreeable,' but the fact of the matter is that the media culture right now loves conflict. And if there is a story about cooperation between the two parties, that story doesn't make the news. What makes the news is somebody who says something as outlandish or outrageous as possible."

That said, it wasn’t all fluff. Obama delved into policy, dropping some statistics about job losses to make the case that the economy is actually in a better place than it could have been had done nothing when taking office. The gabby panel was mostly too busy swooning to really challenge him on policy talk. There was speculation that token conservative and Sarah Palin pal Elizabeth Hasselbeck would lob Obama the most pointed queries. How, she asked, can you claim that your administration has saved jobs. What does that even mean? Obama’s plain answer – "well, it matters if your job was one that was saved".

Oh yeah, and apparently the President doesn't know who Snooki is!
Beck will have the un-American details tonight!
I want to know what you guys thought of the appearance. Was it beneath the President? Or did he hit a home-run?
