Share This! is a fun look at the history of online networkin, jam-packed with stories, many of which you might remember, that will move you and make you LOL. It acts almost as a training manual for how to navigate what Deanna Zandt calls the "transitional moment" that we are in.
There are several reason that Zandt says we are in a transitional moment right now. The online model of many-to-many communication is growing in acceptance and living somewhat comfortably side-by-side with the traditional, top-down broadcast systems. We are beginning to see a shift in how we measure the impact of our media, relying less on sheer numbers and more on value.
One issue that Zandt takes up in her book is the problem of dealing with misinformation online. We spoke about a couple examples; the incorrect tweets about Jeff Goldblum's deat, and the remarkably erroneous email forwards of the 2008 campaign. And we touched on the echo chamber effect.
The last moment I wanted to highlight, certainly not the least, was our conversation about storytelling and how it played a role in the fight for health care reform.
