there's diaries up right now that have to do with who cares and who doesn't care about Afghanistan.
But there is one person who really, really cares about Afghanistan; who desperately wants the war to continue, supposedly so that we can "finish the job".
Sometimes I wonder about his motivation, and here's why.
Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, says that an alliance of antiwar Democrats and Republicans who want to see Obama fail are going to get together and stop the war in Afghanistan.
That's really bad; but is it bad for the Afghan People? is it bad for Pakistan? Who is it really bad for?
Maybe it's bad for Lindsey himself, because he is going to lose a lot of votes if the war ends; not only that, but he's going to lose a lot of money too.
Here's why;
Lindsey Graham and the State of South Carolina are beneficiaries of our preoccupation with military action, and especially our so-called "defense" industries, which have proved to be the most recession proof investments in the history of the United States.
In South Carolina there is a company called Northrup Grumman which is one of the biggest defense contractors in the nation. There's many others, and all the workers in those companies vote. I can't tell you if lobbyists from those companies have contributed to Lindsey Graham's campaign war chest, or directly to the senator; I'll let you draw your own conclusions.
The dollar Amount of Defense Contracts Awarded to Contractors in South Carolina from 2000 to 2009 was a whopping $17,458,055,391; that's 17 billion and change just in that state alone.
The number of Defense Contracts Awarded to Contractors in South Carolina from 2000 to 2009 was 32,704
The number of Defense Contractors in South Carolina; 2,945
I really wonder why Lindsey Graham wants eternal war; don't you?
