Ah the Fancy Farm Picnic. A hearken back to the old days when politicians had to actually meet the voters and make an impression to win. However, this year is special. We have not only an upstart tea-bagger on the Republican side but we have Republican "leader" and sacred cow Mitch McConnell. Our founder at Hillbilly Report went and wrote this Excellent diary about the event from a Progressive perspective, and I believe this event will foreshadow the strategy employed by Republicans in every race this fall.
First, Jack Conway did dynamite in his speech ripping into Rand Paul and the Republicans:
One thing is certain, Conway is a proven fundraiser and we in the Progressive community need to support him in any way we can. The ideology of Rand Paul should never be seated in the Senate where he could team up with men like Mitch McConnell and effect legislation. Go here and help Jack Conway!!:

The telling part is the Republican response to Jack Conway. Did they attack the record of the very effective state Attorney General?? Not quite. They summoned the visage of Obama and Pelosi at every turn. They offered nothing of essence, or any visIon:
And of course these elitist Republicans care nothing of their Commonwealth. They either don't know the words to "My Old Kentucky Home" or don't want to sing them. Of course in the case of Exxon Ed Whitfield it would be nice if you at least lived here and didn't sing:
Which tells the Republican strategy very well. Rich, elitists who are completely out of touch with the unwashed masses they stand in front of railing about the evils of Obama and Pelosi because they are forced to clean up the mess that Bush, Cheney and McConnell fashioned upon America. Republicans only offer ideas to solve all America's problems that are their old ideas which caused the problems to begin with, except this time on meth, crack and steroids. But they will stop just short of telling you that...
If we get behind some of our candidates and get motivated to vote and get the real record out we may just lose less than we think we will. It seems to me that their strategy is thin and their message fake. All over the country they will be selling it to the American people and now it is our job to make sure they do not buy it.
