The blackwoman has been left slack-jawed at some of what passes for dialogue on this site. I've been told today that I am too sensitive because I object to the term 'race card' and find it offensive.
I see where a rad-idiot thinks that saying the word Nigger repeatedly to an African American woman was also a case of hypersensitivity. There was even one person on this site who agreed with her. This shit is getting old.
At least once a week some fool makes the claim that black folk see all criticism of our President as racist. This too, is getting old.
Slowly...the claim of being progressive does not cleanse one of one's racial attitude except in theory. In theory, being progressive ought to do this. Practically speaking, it doesn't. Not always.
Bring up the term 'white privilege' and some heads around here explode. Voices cry out about the paucity of their own personal lives and confuse class with race. This seems to me to be a way of intellectualizing race and derailing the conversation. Lots of derailing goes on in diaries dealing with race or racial issues.
Interestingly enough, few would argue that race has been used in the South to entice poor whites to vote against their own self interest. Apparently some people are not paying attention. Happens all over this United States of America.
I am always fascinated by those progressives who are quick to give the benefit of the doubt in situations where race is part of the story. Right now I'm thinking about some of the contortions around the racist who called our President a liar during a joint session of Congress.
For the record, I don't think all of the criticism of the President on this site is racist. Even when it strikes me thus, I suspect it is an unconscious racism born out of isolation and ignorance. I admit to having limited patience with these people.
Ironic that on a site where the purpose is to elect better Democrats much of the criticism is of Democrats...you know like our President. Day in and day out republican'ts do incredibly stupid, vile, immoral and corrupt things. I'm one of those folk who would rather see them criticized with as much enthusiasm. I am thankful that many of the front pagers do this. See I kinda believe that a house divided against itself cannot stand.
There are of course exceptions. There are some on this site who indeed are raving racist. In some of my interactions with people like this, something about me seems to make their heads explode. Fortunately they do not get to stay around very long.
You have no idea of how many times I have had to erase the first line of my replies from 'Listen up muthaf*cker.' Or how many times I erase the last line which is often 'You may kiss my black ass.' As both suggestion and permission.
The others I find suspect(in terms of racism) find a way into a diary where race is the topic after the thread dies down and offer their contrarian views. I love it when I'm told what is or isn't racist.
It's kinda like porn, I know it when I see it. I've seen it on this site. Too often not to call it out.
Most days I lament the many black folk who have simply left. I admit to having considered leaving myself. I mostly stay out of diaries where I am in disagreement with the author. At this point I pretty much know who those people are. I stick with the topics with which I have intimate knowledge.
Race. Racism.
I'm not leaving because I've decided it is my duty to keep those heads exploding until the bullshit is blown up.
Now run and tell that.
