So a few years ago, some guy created a blog. We’re here today because of it.
Inching our way, one foot at a time,
One toe over the line.. sweet cheezus (you nailed it Jez)
One of the most surprising and unexpected joys of this online community is the number of friendships that are formed and which translate, with some effort, into offline life. This week, an example of what can happen when a bunch of like minded (it’s possible here to insert “insane” and achieve the same intended result) individuals get together to celebrate friendships formed as a result of Daily Kos as a whole and Mojo Friday/NFTT on a smaller scale took place in a beach house in Santa Cruz, CA.
Chatting online in here and in wave* is fun, but eventually the craving for irl interaction was too great. Months of planning ensued to find the perfect meeting place prior to NN10. That unfortunately did not work out, but shortly thereafter a date was selected, a location was chosen, and then the anticipation.
It took to days from everyone to arrive from New Hampshire, Maryland, Illinois, Florida, and other parts of California. Some by plane (with rookie pilots), some by 20 mule train car.
There were only a few rules of the house: no smoking indoors, no hot tub noise after 10, no pets allowed, but we all still decided to show up, (even bamboo) the most important, which no one was allowed to disobey was:
All toenails must be polished
Also,
All conversation must lead back to food.
It’s been a quotable event so far:
“Where’s my bling? I gotta put bling on my toes!”
“Every time I’m with these people they make me pee my pants several times a day!”
“That’s not going into Mojo Friday tomorrow is it? ... Oh you fucking bitch!”
“Nobody can prove anything!”
“I have duct tape!” “Of course you do.”
“That’s a big one. ... That’s a big one?”
“Don’t give that to the birthday girl.”
“I’m on it, baby!”
“My iPhone app for alcohol content in this wine is broken“
“Wish Again! WISH AGAIN!!! Stop laughing! You’re ruining my picture!”
“I have no fear.”
“When you hear that about cutting a cake, that’s kind of scary.”
“I’m starting the revolution!” “With a purple fedora?” “Don’t question it”
“Did you show anyone what I gave you???”
“Pineapple! PINEAPPLE!!!!”
“That’s gonna leave a mark”
"And by 'I'm sorry', I really mean 'fuck you'"
Besides putting our best feet forward, we also toed the fashion line
We may seem wild and crazy, but we were really buttoned down with plenty of charm
It’s a mojo filled event
that we couldn’t have planned without wave
Oh, wait not that wave, this wave.
* Everybody thinks that Google Wave is a joke, but we have found it to be the best multi-user chat available. You don’t have to be live, you can post threaded comments, pictures, and you can edit comments (and other people’s comments). Let us know of any others that can do that. No, seriously, let us know, because wave is disappearing and we will soon be lost without it.
Mojo Friday Guidelines
If you comment you have to recommend all comments. (in order to receive mojo you have to give mojo. It's only good mojo manners.)
Everything you say may be taken as a joke (so if you ask a question, expect a silly answer)
You must recommend the diary (and pimp it unapologetically)
You don't have to comment to recommend.
You can't steal my idea (right, like that ain't goin' to happen)
Please, no pictures or YouTubes until after 300 comments. Now, after 300, use a little common courtesy and be responsible in the number.
Mojo mojo mojo mojo, mojo mojo mojo.
TexDem (that's me) is not bound by the guidelines. Heh
Mojo Friday Goals
A. At least 300 different commenters and 1000 comments by 1:30 PM EST and 1500 by 5:00 PM EST Friday Night that it's posted.
B. 100 recommends for each comment, at least.
C. Stay on Recommend List at least five hours (this requires some strategic planning by you guys, refer to guideline #3)
D. At least 200 diary recommends. 300 would be better, spread the word.
E. And always, fun fun fun.
F. Have at least 75% average participation rate as seen here in the Mojo Friday Postgame Show by Hedwig.
G. (New) Have at least 30 kossacks over 90% participation (see here for some tips).
H. Overload the servers with recommends, not to mention dominate Top Comments Mojo list. (we do tend to mess with the site with all of our recommends at one time)(also, to dominate the Top Comments Top Mojo we need at least 50 comments with over 200 recommends, see guideline B)
I. That's enough for now. (Have a suggestion? Post it.)
MKinTN posted a diary to help everyone achieve greater success called How to Succeed at Mojo Friday Without Really Trying.
For those of you new to MF (Mojo Friday) we have our own lingo about a few things. Thank's to MF'er Jez (the link will explain) go to this diary for a little more fun and explanation. Official Mojo Friday Snecktionary.
