So the Cordoba House would be going right smack down at Ground Zero?
Well not exactly, it's actually going to be a couple of blocks away
Some of the tenants in the nearby area include an off-track betting site, two strip clubs and yes Thunder Lingerie pictured below which is about the same distance
Call it "the ground zero mosque," as some of its critics have, and some people might get the impression that the mosque in question will be located, well, right at ground zero, or at least across the street. But that label obscures a few important facts: the Cordoba House complex at 45-51 Park Place would sit not right next door but instead two blocks away from the World Trade Center site, in an area that is not a somber pastoral landscape but a busy and diverse city district.
So its okay for all of these other houses of vice be located near this hallowed sanctuary but just don't put your place of worship. Michael Bloomberg said it beautifully in his speech on August 3 where he was flanked by clergy leaders of all faiths.
"The government has no right whatsoever to deny that right – and if it were tried, the courts would almost certainly strike it down as a violation of the U.S. Constitution. Whatever you may think of the proposed mosque and community center, lost in the heat of the debate has been a basic question – should government attempt to deny private citizens the right to build a house of worship on private property based on their particular religion? That may happen in other countries, but we should never allow it to happen here. This nation was founded on the principle that the government must never choose between religions, or favor one over another.
"The World Trade Center Site will forever hold a special place in our City, in our hearts. But we would be untrue to the best part of ourselves – and who we are as New Yorkers and Americans – if we said ‘no’ to a mosque in Lower Manhattan.
However, the demagoguery has not slowed down and in fact it has intensified by most accounts. The right wing extremists and category five morons believe or at least are negligent in promoting that allowing the misnamed "ground zero mosque" will ensure more terrorist attacks. But we hear nothing about the "ground zero delicatessen" or the "ground zero sex shops" which are the same distance away from the actual "ground zero". We just hear about the radicals that want to celebrate the murders of Americans on 9/11 by putting their Mosque in the middle of Ground Zero. So far from the truth.
Hate and discrimination anywhere diminishes all of us. And the opposition to this project is comprised of nothing but hate. It is our duty to let others know what this is actually about and why it should have been a non-starter. Simply calling this the "ground Zero Mosque" is another red-herring to distract us from being able to get along peacefully.
Let those who are feeding misinformation about the Cordoba House know that they should be ashamed of themselves. A number of Republican officials have indicated that they want to make this an election issue after President Obama's statement of support. Well let them, we just need to have our information ready because the constitution, our history and the facts are certainly on our side.
