Any “illegal” immigrant who has a percent of “Native American” blood is more of a citizen than most of us.
Being a typical Kentuckian, I am primarily of Scot-Irish heritage (with the usual American mixture of German, English, etc. etc I sound like a Heinz 57 Dog, i.e, typical American).
I find it odd Americans do not consider some of the human beings crossing the border illegally have ancestors who were in the Americas 15,000 to 18,000 years ago. To use myself as an example, I have a relative who was born in America in 1759. In my book, James my great, great (whatever) grandfather has been in America a looooong time. That’s 259 years (2010 -1759).
Taking the low end for Native Americans – 15,000 year vs. 251 years. Most would call this disparity large – 14,749 years! They ended up in Mexico by chance. At an arbitrary point in time, they are not allowed back into their place of origin.
The border between Mexico and the United States has been fluid most of our history - Half of America used to be part of Mexico which we seized through a war of choice ...
I am not for “open” borders. I believe in the Democratic (and the old John McCain, George Bush) position of giving the 13 million human beings (illegals) a chance to live in the United States in America. I also believe in a national id to prevent employers from hiring individuals without proper identification.
