The slogan "Change you can believe in" suggests a strength in leadership that no one on the democratic side has been willing or able to display. On issue after issue, the White House and the democratic leaders in congress have compromised away principles and have lost the faith of the voters that swept them into office.
The so called "ground zero mosque" issue just cries out for someone to stand up for what is right without equivocation. Is there no one left willing or able to take that stand?
The "mosque" issue is like a baseball sitting on a tee waiting to be hit out of the park. Who will pick up the bat? The right of and freedom from religion is fundamental to everything America stands for. Those on the right and their Tea Party followers have been citing respect for the constitution at every turn. Their hypocrisy on this basic first amendment right is the ideal example of a complete lack of understanding of what it means to be American.
Yes, Obama said the right thing. He hardly made the statement forceably. Then he followed up by stating that those who are building the community center may not be making the wise choice, even if it is a "correct" choice.
What better way to exemplify "change" then to have the democratic party and it's leader to take the high ground. Every democrat should be using this as a lesson in the constitution for all those Teabaggers and teabagger wannabees in the republican party trying to scare the electorate. The Bush administration played the fear card over and over while democrats parsed their positions to not appear "soft on terror."
Those of us who voted for change, voted for a leader we thought would stand for change. Shout down the fearmongers an issue that is so obviously right. It worked to defeat McCarthy. It can work now and it is the right thing to do.
