I did not recognize World Vision as primarily religious when I donated to their organization in response to the Haitian disaster some months ago.
I regret this now, because on August 23, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals granted World Vision an exemption from a federal law that bans faith-based discrimination. The decision ruled that World Vision is "primarily a religious institution" and as such is exempt from federal regulation. I would put the link here, but I do not know how to do so. The news was reported on all major news organizations. I read it at www.huffingtonpost.com. (My PC automatically converted this to a link, but I have yet to find out how to do it on my Mac).
In any case, I am against any form of discrimination and certainly would not have given to this organization had I known that they were allowed to discriminate.
Thought I'd let you all know just in case you did not know this already.
Peace. Jane
