Here's something we all can do:
I think that the wealthy, electeds and elites truly believe that we citizens are stupid and uninformed about their specific means, motives and opportunities.
Three Times Is Enemy Action is a Daily Kos front page story that Mark Sumner posted on September 21, 2008, to little fanfare. Please read it.
In an astounding review of the causes of our current economic decline, Mark (formerly known by the kos uid 'devilstower') enumerated the specific Congressional legislation that has now put over thirty million people in the U.S. out of work and catalyzed the transfer of trillions of dollars of U.S. sovereign debt (our taxes and our future taxes to-be-paid) into the hands of the already egregiously wealthy few here and abroad.
We must let them know we are well-informed about their fraud!
I urge that we print out this article and politely hand it to our local bank branch managers. Astoundingly, some will have actually read it.
Most, however, have not. But they will dutifully pass it up the line to their local group managers who will eventually send a copy to their executive offices. They must know what we know.
Information and truth are the most powerful weapons we wield.
In all the contemporary fragmented distraction of propaganda, nonsensical false controversy and amid dangerous violence fomented by fanatics unleashed by extremism, the simple clarity of Mark's article lays out the three laws and the consequences of those laws that have changed our world into the nightmare scenario of uncertainty, disaffection and despair that many of us are now suffering every day. These laws are...
The Garn-St.Germain Depository Institutions Act of 1982,
Gramm-Leach-Bliley (a/k/a Financial Services Modernization Act) of 1999
and Commodities Futures Modernization Act of 2000.
I live in N.Y.C., so it is easy for me to make a hundred copies and hand them to the well-dressed on Madison and Park Avenues as they come and go. Importantly, I will also dress up and hand them to the restaurant maitre d's and the bartenders who serve them.
Teddy Kennedy, in a famous Senate speech addressing the need for an increase in the minimum wage, angrily asked his fellow Senators, "When does the greed stop?"
Their greed will stop only when we make those demands that they fear. Frederick Douglass said, "Power concedes nothing without a demand."
Let this simple document obtain the wider readership it well deserves among the elites. I've already sent a copy to my lawyer friends in the media, at NBC-TV NY and at MSNBC, and to the secretaries to the Presidents of the four TBTF banks. We'll see.
The thing is, I feel better already!
Would somebody please send one to Lloyd Blankfein? Tell him "Only God does God's work." All that any of us can do is row His boat...but, sometimes, we can even rock it.
