Let me just start this little rant by saying that Glenn Beck is a snake-oil salesman.  He's a jerk, a wacko, an opportunist, and a liar.

He's also smart.  Smarter than we are, apparently.

Why do I say this?  Because he's co-opted the concept of honor -- specifically, American honor -- and he's getting away with it.

Why isn't today about the progressive version of Anerican honor?  Real American honor?

Why aren't progressives on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial today, talking to a crowd of hundreds of thousands about the kind of American honor that Martin Luther King, Jr. talked about 47 years ago?

Why aren't we talking about taking our country back?

The America that doesn't torture?  The America that doesn't spy on its own citizens?

The America that doesn't ignore the Constitutional rights of the accused, no matter what they're accused of?

The America that faced the Great Depression of the 1930s with the New Deal and all of the New Deal programs?

The America that enacted the civil rights legislation of the 1960s?

The America of Loving vs. Virginia, and Brown vs. the Board of Education, and Roe v. Wade?

The America that gave us Supreme Court justices like Thurgood Marshall, and Presidents like Franklin Roosevelt?

Where's that honorable America?  Where are those, like me, who want that America back?

Glenn Beck beat us to it.  He's got the microphone and the crowd and the teevee coverage, and he's got the meme.  And we're all just sitting here seething.

Shame on us for letting him do it.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
