I've got good news. I'm now officially blogging for Democratic Congressional candidate Fred Johnson's campaign, and in return they're giving me money.
Not a ton of money (**cough** five buck to his campaign would do a lot of good, by the way). Not so much a wage, but the work is appreciated. And besides, I couldn't just sit by and watch Bill Huizenga and all the folks who have kept a stranglehold on West Michigan for so long replace Hoekstra without a fight. Huizenga's campaign is loaded.
And it's no wonder. It's easy to raise money when you're long time, childhood chums with Erik Prince, founder and one time head honcho of Blackwater Security (now called Xe) like Bill Huizenga is.
Or when you're chums with the DeVos family, the founders of the pyramid scheme, multilevel marketing company AmWay (now called Alticor)...getting massive donations for Erik Prince's sister, Betsy DeVos.
Or when you're a one time staffer of Pete Hoekstra who is famous for being kind of a buffoon who once suggested that US intelligence agents who claimed there were no WMDs in Iraq were terrorist sympathizers.
Or when you're getting mad cash for promoting the anti-choice, homophobic, intelligent design slinging Family Research Council
It's sort of like a multi-headed hydra. Schlock of one of the crazy heads -- like we did when moderate Rick Snyder beat Hoekstra in the Republican gubernatorial primary (Leader and visionary Virg Bernero took the Dem nomination) -- and another one grows back.
There's like, a dozen folks running things in these parts, who have a sense of entitlement about their power here. Dick DeVos tried to outright buy the elections against Granholm...
But the militant-conservative DeVos/Prince families keep rearing their heads over and over and over again. This time their recent spawn is Bill Huizenga. Born, like all his chums, with a silver spoon in his mouth and absolutely no comprehension of what life is like for the other 99% of his constituency...and now he wants to run things.
One more Erik Prince, Blackwater Security advocate in Washington DC spewing his Family Research Council garbage without understanding or shame.
I can't let that happen without a fight.
The guy I'm trying to get into office is just a regular guy. A workaholic trying to make things right with the world. He's a history professor at Hope college, and an author about teaching methodology...and he co-authored a book about the life of American rapper Tupak Shakur.
Please help him out, which, incidentally, helps me out too...
Please donate $5 for his campaign. We need a changing of the guard here.
