The vast majority of tonight will be observations & memories concerning the "official" end of our combat operations in Iraq; no, I don't need to be reminded about the 50,000 still there & in harm's way. Approximately 4400 Americans lost their lives, thousands & thousands were horribly wounded, and thousands & thousands & thousands of families all over the world were directly affected by the previous administration's decision to invade a country that had absolutely nothing to do with the horror inflicted upon us on September 11, 2001.
I am saddened, sickened, and angered over the past 7 years but eternally & humbly grateful for the sacrifice made by those who volunteered to serve their country largely with civilian authority in the previous administration that did their utmost to AVOID military service. I wonder how the previous administration is remembering the day?
Let's note just a few other "this day in history" items. On Aug. 31, 1997, Britain's Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris at age 36. I remember going to sleep that Saturday night, and news then was indicating that she'd just broken her arm; the next morning, I wake up to news that she had died. Absolute madness...
Violinist Itzhak Perlman is 65 today. Let us remember the past 7 years, all those who've served their country, and those who continue to serve their country.
Let's Countdown...
