Today's output from Blogistan Polytechnic Institute’s state-of-the-art HEMMED (High-Energy Meta Mojo Elucidation Detector) machine is some Basic Math about Our Base and Our Progressive Agenda.
Last week, I was intimidated by exposed to theories of math in NCrissieB's Morning Feature: Is God a Mathematician? (Non-Cynical Saturday). The post was a review of a book by Mario Livio.
As I pondered just how little I knew about theories of math, it started me thinking about the math I do know which is more like arithmetic and the theoretical things I do understand like logic.
I want to start with this construct:
Some examples of simple math are:
- 435 / 2 = 218 (rounded)
- 257 - 218 = 39
- 100 / 2 = 50 (plus a Biden)
- 59 - 49 = 10
The loss of 39 seats in the House of Representatives would mean the loss of our House majority.
The loss of 10 seats in the Senate would mean the loss of our Senate majority.
QED (as math geeks say)
.
And now this construct: a decision tree (logic):
.
Here is the math I learned on Saturday about the Wisconsin statewide races:
- Expected voters in Wisconsin........1,238,680
- Votes needed to win....................1,164,114
- Democratic base.........................1,014,030
- Voter deficit.....150,084
.
Notice something about that math...it assumes that the Democratic base will vote. It needs the Democratic base to vote. It needs us (the Democratic base) to stay energized. It needs us to work together. Our differences are minor when compared to our differences with the Tea Party GOP. We can talk more about those differences on November 3rd.
.
The 2010 midterm is not a national election. It is a state by state election, a county by county election, a precinct by precinct election. But what happens in a precinct in Florida impacts the people of my state, Wisconsin, because every Democrat not re-elected weakens our Congressional majorities and threatens our ability to advance our Progressive agenda:
- People matter more than profits.
- The earth is our home, not our trash can.
- We need good government for both #1 and #2.
That means we have to work together across the country. Get our base energized, volunteer to find and convince our 2008 first-time voters and our leaning blue voters to vote and to vote for Democrats.
.
Contact your local Democratic partyand volunteer to help elect more and better Democrats. And this year, to elect enough Democrats to preserve our majorities.
.
Happy Tuesday Thursday to everyone and fist bumps!
