Everything, it seems, is fear-driven these days. Both parties, Republican and Democratic, are chock full of fear mongering. They both want everyone to be deathly afraid. Afraid so that the people will vote the way they want them to. Quite frankly, I'm sick of it. Being continuously motivated by fear is a horrible way to live life. You spend all your time worrying that the sky is going to fall. If something goes the way you hoped, it's not happiness that you feel. It's relief. Relief from all the suffering and anguish that you put yourself through imagining how horrible things would be if things didn't go as you hoped.
No thanks. I'm not interested in living that way. I got better things to do with my time.
Even on this site, there is plenty of fear-mongering going on. I swear, people act like the sun is going to explode if Republicans take control of the house. No, I don't want Republicans to gain control of the house but I'm not terribly worried that if they do the world will suddenly end. Honestly, if they do take control of the house, it won't be much different than what we have right now. Regardless of what comes out of the house, the Senate will still be in perpetual gridlock. Either way, the end result is the same...
Nothing. Getting. Done.
So, if you really want my vote, you'll have to do better than "Vote for Democrats so that Republicans don't win because if they do our country will cease to exist!"
I'm sorry, but that doesn't motivate me to vote for anyone at all.
Instead, show me what you believe in. Show me what you've fought for and what you're willing to fight for. Tell me the details of your ideas and your plans for getting good things accomplished. Make me believe that you have an actual chance of succeeding. And, by the way, if you don't have a coherent plan to get through this mess we're in, then why the fuck are you running for office in the first place? Right now, your job is to inspire me. Make me want to go to the polls because I am excited about the possibilities of the future, not because I'm afraid for my life!
In summary, if you really want my vote that badly, then earn it. It's the least you could do.
