Hello all, this is maybe my 3 diary and its going to be a series of tips that I hope Dems will use to their and our advantage. Like me I'm sure many of you are there are tired of hearing about the wave of republicans coming in to office. Fact is the republican candidates seeking for re-election are running on merely dismantling and repealing most of whats be done by POTUS and Congress. Here are some things that have just generally crossed my mind as to how we as a party take on the public meme that we are going to get slaughtered.
- Forget about the things we've already passed and talk about what things are coming up. The fact is the public doesn't know whats in half of the bills we've passed and trying to explain it to them in 8 weeks wont improve things. Talk about improvements that are going to be made on health care, on wall street, on student loan etc.
- Ask regular questions to republican candidates.
I think sometimes we think that if we do the messaging thing like them we will beat them, pfft no need. The problem with the messaging thing is that once everyone starts repeating it over and over everyone remembers it. So Jan Brewer, John McCain, Jon Kyl about those beheadings and violence in Arizona, where is it again? Who is doing it? and why havent you put a package together to address it? Hey Senator McConnell, John Boehner, if you all take the house and senate how long will it take to repeal health care, wall street, student loan etc? And what happens if none of those are repealed? How long after you take congress will it take for the unemployment rate to drop?
- Show some unity and make your message both local and national.
Theres no reason why Sen Boxer cant say that she will work with Jack Conway or Joe Sestak to pass a bill to improve on Mine Safety. Russ Fiengold can work with Bennett and Sestak on lets say anti crime measures, the decriminalization of marijuana or whatever the case may be. Start talking about things you will do that will get both your own local base stirred up but also make a splash in the national stage. Hell we still have The New START Treaty out there that can be pounded on. Theres immigration, theres education, theres a crap load. We dont have to do this alone.
These are just a few ideas that have been on my mind the last day or two. If anyone else has any more suggestions on things that we can do please add on. We dont have to fight this battle alone and make it simply local when we know the repubs have nothing to run on. None of them are actually proposing to do anything just undo things and hope for the best. We have to put them on the defensive and stop worrying about clever wording or sharp comebacks. Just go on the offensive with your ideas against their empty rhetoric.
