This video was tweeted this afternoon, and I haven't seen much on it. If you want to avoid watching it, I don't blame you. It has the Quran burning pastor with 4 or 5 of his friends? congregation? saying the N-word with big ol' smirks on their faces, and one guy going on a long defense of it, revving up whoever he can with talk of double standards, "How come we don't get to say it," and generally obnoxious white supremacist talk.
Update - I just saw the front page with Pres. Obama's statement. It is calming, and I have no wish to disagree, although I still hate the Skokie decision. I read some excellent comments and diaries about who this pastor is - skepticalobserver below, backgroundnoise, more. It sounds like this pastor and his sidekick are serious provocateurs, racial, religious, inter-national.
I guess we'll have to learn more about that as we grow.
This video is Laura Schlessinger on steroids. If this pastor is getting so much attention for the Quran burning, (the attention rightfully trying to stop him) he should be exposed for the rest of this piece of Old South filth.
Let the Republicans defend this video. Make them condemn this, as well as the threat to our troops, if anyone can get them to do it without them winking to all they're trying to cement to their base.
This is no dog whistle. It's no slip of the tongue, foolish or even glib statement. This is part of an organized effort to say FU to the LAWS that say you don't get to discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation.
This is a video saying you will NEVER be equal.
The guy in the video at:23, http://www.youtube.com/... or http://bit.ly/... in a white T-shirt with a green background screen, was on CNN? this afternoon talking about the right to burn the Qurans. I wasn't paying enough attention, just saw him.
I'm almost positive it was CNN.
Someone, please, do something. I'm of two minds on this. I hate to see the video given play, and yet I can't see letting it go by, especially since one of these jerks was being interviewed on CABLE.
I know most people won't agree with me on the 1st amendment issue. I hate the Skokie decision, and feel like we should be like post WWII Germany, banning hate speech that comes from our own hideous past of slavery, the defeat of reconstruction, and years of unequal treatment even after passage of the New Deal. I'm not making comparisons or analogies to fascism in Germany. I'm just saying there's something we can learn.
To me, you shouldn't get to use that kind of language on public airways, and if it gets out there, its proponents should be condemned and isolated.
I'll be damned if this video is a fake. Amazing use of doubles if it is.
