This is probably more of a comment than a diary, I'd apologize if I gave a damn.
I was reading the Yahoo blurb on the GOP filibuster of the Defense Appropriation Bill that included the DREAM act and DADT repeal. And prominently highlighted was the quote by Richard Scoriades laying the blame at the Obama Administration and the Democratic Caucus for screwing this up.
Can I get a WTF from the chorus?
Why is it that the actions of 41 GOP Senators and 3 Democratic Senators constitutes a failure of the Democratic Party? Is this another magical thinking exercise? Mr. Scoriades is quoted as saying "If it was a priority for the Democratic leadership, they would get a clean vote on this."
They did get a "clean" vote. They bundled it with a bill that they hoped could escape a filibuster and LOST. They lost because the GOP wouldn't vote for Christmas if the Democratic leadership introduced it.
In what magical world has this guy been living in? Oh, I know, Obama could have waved his magic "bully pulpit" wand - the one that allows Presidents with sub-50% approval ratings to magically make Senators do whatever he wants - and make Blanche Lincoln to be NOT a raving asshat.
Here's what has me so frakking angry. Does Mr. Scoriades (and presumably other GLBT activists) think that big Democratic losses in November will make LGBT issues MORE likely to pass Congress or LESS?
I'm just curious.
Because if progressive groups keep laying the blame for GOP obstruction on the doorstep of the Democratic Congress and White House, we can all look forward to the day in 2013 when Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader DeMint travel up Pennsylvania Avenue to watch President Gingrich signs the law making homosexuality illegal.
No wonder Congressional Dems are paralyzed with fear. If their enemies can't find a way to defeat them, their friends can always help drive the shiv between their ribs.
