I can’t believe it but the Republicans are actually true to their word about fiscal discipline.
By filibustering the entire defense spending bill and killing Obama’s tax cut plan we could see actually see a balanced budget. The first since Bill Clinton was in office.
I for one support my Senator, Richard Burr in his actions. But I am a bit surprised. North Carolina’s economy depends on defense spending. But as his web page says: he no longer has the ability to represent the seven active military bases in North Carolina. He might be on to something, we might just not be attacked if we no longer had our fighting men and woman spread all over the globe defending other people’s country.
And as for the fillerbuster of Obama’s tax cuts, well now that I think of it I can give up my small tax cut for the good of the country.
I don't think Elaine Marshall would be so prudent as reject the entire defense bill. Nor do I think she would be so brave as to reject these tax cuts during a ressession and an election year. Think of the bravery, stopping a tax cut that cuts the tax bill for every one who pays income taxes. (Remember Obama's tax cuts significantly cuts the taxes of those that make over $250,000 every year. It just doesn't give them an extra special tax cut just for them.)
Thanks Senator Burr, I didn’t think you had it in you to do something, anything innovative.
Perhaps at least 40 Democratic senators will help Senator Burr in his goal to balance the budget by filibustering the defense bill if it excludes the rejection of DADT and doesn't include the DREAM act. And fourty (maybe not the same forty) should also stop Obama's tax cuts for everyone that pays income taxes.
If Senator Burr can be so bold as to take drastic measures to balance the budget, why can't they take the bold initiative also?
