Only one week left before over 200 organizations and concerned citizens from across the nation join together for what will become a historic event.
If you have a chance, and if you have friends in the Washington, DC area, please let them know about this event. There are no media announcements there to date.
Also,
Interesting observation: Google search for "10.2.10 March" has risen from a mere 7,000 a couple of weeks ago to over 30,000 today. WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE, kossacks. Your comments are showing up on hundreds of blogs.
SUGGESTION on where to meet for the Rally: How about we plan to gather on the left side of and adjacent to the reflection pool facing the Lincoln Memorial? Wear something orange (I've picked out my shirt). Just a thought.
Please, keep it up. We are on the last stretch in our effort to help increase the turn out.
If you have a spare moment this upcoming week, could you
Please help spread the word about the 10.2.10 March on Washington to any/all you know in DC. People there haven't heard about this. The media in DC is crickets.
Here is something I have been doing.
Did you know you can sign up for the Washington Post for free AND leave comments? You can. While you're there drop a comment into Chris Cilliza's The Fix column (I got a few in, but now they are monitoring comments, but try anyway), and any other WaPo article that allows comments.
Here's the comment I added to this article Palin hits Obama, GOP establishment in Iowa speech this morning. I then copy and pasted it to Chris Cilizza's The Fix. Here's my standard letter, if it's too long from some comment sites, I reduce it:

If you want to stand up, united in purpose, for progressive policies, just show up.
If we don't show up, democracy is weakened.

Please, join this effort. DC reads WaPo. Also, you can do the same in many of your local newspapers. We can spread the word with a bit of a concerted effort.
Thank you

Please drop LTEs, blog comments, online news comments, and/or where ever you can to get this ANNOUNCEMENT in front of peoples eyes.

GETTING AROUND DC
How do I get to the March?
The best way to arrive at the March is by Metro.
The closest Metro stops to the event are the Smithsonian and Foggy Bottom stops on the Orange and Blue Lines, and the Arlington National Cemetery (Less Crowded) stop on the Blue Line.
Please note that all of these stops still require a walk of approximately a mile to the event site. Other stations that are close to the National Mall include Farragut West, Metro Center, and Federal Triangle. To learn more about the Metrorail system or to plan your route check out the WMATA website.
Metro will be opening one hour early to accommodate participants in the One Nation March. Beginning at 6:00 am, Metro will operate on a regular Saturday schedule, 6:00 AM – 3:00 AM (on Sunday morning). Please note that entrances to the Smithsonian Metro Station close at 10:00 PM.
Metro farecards may be purchased in advance by contacting Metrorail at 202 962 5700/5716. In order to ensure that farecards get to those who order them, METRO asks that farecards be ordered by September 17, 2010.

Driving to the Event/Taxi Service
Driving to the Event/Taxi Service
Because of anticipated road closures and vehicle traffic, we do not recommend that you drive a private vehicle to the March as there is no event parking near the Mall. If you must drive, we recommend that you park your vehicle at a Metro station outside the National Mall area (Metro parking lots are free on Saturdays) and ride the Metro in to the event.
Metro recommends the parking lots at the following stations:
Shady Grove (Red)
Greenbelt (Green)
Vienna (Orange)
Franconia (Blue)
New Carrolton (Orange)
Huntington (Yellow)
Please note that Metro does not have parking for buses and will not allow charter buses to use loading zones at the Metro stations. Operators will be ticketed if they impede Metro operations.
Taxis will be permitted to drop off and pick up on the National Mall except where street closures prevent vehicle access. Anticipating road closures and vehicle traffic around the event site, it is likely that any taxi drop off and pick up sites will be at a distance and will require a walk to the event site. Please see below for a map of expected street closures.
Bicycles
Information about bicycle racks and parking on the National Mall may be found at: http://www.nps.gov/...
