Let me see if I understand this. The argument put forth by the ConservaDems is that they are afraid to vote on a bill which would extend the 2001 tax cuts for the middle class while letting the tax cuts for the wealthy expire (according to the schedule designed by the Republicans) because they are afraid Republicans will then run ads attacking them for voting for a tax increase.
I don't understand this. I'll give it another try.
Democrats would vote in favor of a bill to reduce taxes on 98% of the population, Republicans would vote against the bill, in essence, voting to increase taxes on 98% of the population and it would be the Republicans who would run ads attacking the Democrats for raising taxes?
Surely it has crossed the minds of a few Democrats that if they hold a vote to extend the tax cuts, i.e., lower taxes for 98% of the population, and the Republicans vote against it, then it is the Democrats who can, rightly, run ads attacking the Republicans for voting to increase taxes.
What am I missing?
