SUMMARY: All links below fold.
Last week, the FBI raided the homes and office of antiwar activists in Minneapolis and other midwest locations, and by some reports also had actions in California and North Carolina. These actions come on the tail of an FBI Inspector-General report noting improper FBI actions against non-violent peace groups a half-decade ago.
National protests against these events, which appear to be revival of using the FBI for political repression, are now scheduled. Organizers also urge people to contact Attorney General Holder about these matters.
Perhaps Attorney General Holder, who is responsible for acts of his agency, was too busy to prevent this because he was busy causing the Justice Department to claim that President Obama and the Executive branch have the right to murder American citizens.
With a tip of the hat to Libertarian Party National Committee Member Rachel Hawkridge of Washington for calling all this to my attention.
For those of you who came late to the story, as TwinCities.com reported at the end of last week
The FBI executed six search warrants in Minneapolis this morning, including homes of political activists... One of the warrants was executed at the home of Mick Kelly, an anti-war organizer, according to his attorney Ted Dooley.
Before agents confiscated his cell phone, Kelly told the Associated Press: "The FBI is harassing anti-war organizers and leaders, folks who opposed U.S. intervention in the Middle East and Latin America."
Warrants were also signed to search the homes of Jessica Sundin on Park Avenue and Meredith Aby in South Minneapolis, Dooley said.
The raided offices were the offices of the Minneapolis AntiWar Committee.
These events have been and continue to be more extensively covered at libertarian anti-war site AntiWar.Com.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, AntiWar activists across America have not taken the event lying down. Extensive protests are planned at FBI offices and other places from coast to coast. A partial list of these protests is covered by Reporter Deborah Dupré of Examiner.com, who reports in a story Human Rights protests at FBI buildings across nation. Demanding Holder stops repression that protests are expected at

This being the 21st century, antiwar protesters are also using the social media, as witness the Facebook event page http://www.facebook.com/... which reports in detail on planned Minneapolis protests September 27, 4:30pm - 6:00pm, at the Minneapolis FBI office, 111 Washington Ave S., Minneapolis, MN. The page advances the assertion "The FBI also attempted to intimidate activists in California and North Carolina" but supplies no further information.
The FBI reports to Attorney General Holder, who runs the Department of Justice. The DoJ is a bit busy with other activities, rather than monitoring what the FBI is doing. Activities? Claiming as reported at AntiWar.com that the President has the right to order American citizens assassinated, in the case at hand from the revealed evidence for preaching sermons critical of American foreign policy.
