Things couldn't get any worse for Jan "Headless Bodies" Brewer right now.
With her completely embarrassing 16 seconds of silence, our candidate, Terry Goddard has been able to push out plenty of media. It all ties in with the tag-line "Is this the best Arizona can do?"
Now, the Goddard camp is going to hit no-plan-Jan right where it hurts. Her links to Chuck Coughlin, Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), and the tragic escape of three prisoners from a state private prison in Mohave County that left two people dead.
First, I'll let you take a look at the ad:
It's pretty clear. Terry is following up on the work by Rachel Maddow and Morgan Loewe, exposing Jan Brewer's ties to lobbyist Chuck Coughlin. It would be bad enough if Chuck Coughlin was just another lobbyist. What is despicable, though, is that at the same time Chuck was lobbying for CCA, he was also a direct advisor to Jan Brewer, and is now running her re-election campaign. While the focus of these investigations have linked Coughlin and CCA to Arizona's SB1070, a more general picture of Jan's entanglement in private prisons is coming to light.
While security concerns were identified at the prison well before the escape of the inmates (in 2009), very little public discussion was held and murderers were transferred to a unit that was only supposed to hold minimum security inmates (Source). It seems like the Governor's office and the Department of Corrections head (appointed by Brewer) failed to have an open discussion with the county and residents of who was actually going to be held at the prison by the private prison company who is responsible for the prison's security. And as the Republican dominated legislature pushed for more privitization, Arizona's private prison industry grew, while also lobbying and obtaining less stringent regulation. We all know how this played out:
Reviews of the July 30 incident have painted the picture of a prison where corrections officers became lackadaisical and predictable in their movements and where equipment failures- including false alarms- were so common that they were frequently ignored. - source
According to Jan Brewer, though, this shouldn't be a big story. After all, it was human error:
Brewer, however, said the escape was due to "human error'' and people have been replaced. - Source
Well that's that, huh Jan? Clearly, Jan Brewer doesn't want to hold her donors accountable. She's Chuck Coughlin's marrionette. The people of Arizona should know the truth about Jan Brewer and the ventriloquist act that Chuck Coughlin is perpetrating on Arizonans.
With that in mind, please support Terry so that he can continue to run these ads against no-plan-Jan "Headless Bodies" Brewer, and turn this state BLUE!
