Indeed, the debate appears to be very much over. You don't see 81% of people
in favor of damn near anything these days.
Here is the link, and like most marijuana article titles, its lack of originality or wit is groan-inducing- here
H/t to Raw Story for the plug. http://rawstory.com/...
Like many of you, I talk to very few folks who oppose medical marijuana. And who have I spoken with? Well, that's a long list, but to give a few examples: my friends, conservative Southern family members, Orange County relatives, prison guards, police officers, coworkers, clients at work, and dozens of employees in the medical marijuana industry. I'm just an average American, and it looks like most of my fellow Americans agree with me...there's no reason for cannabis to NOT be used as medicine. It has no dangerous side effects, and the same can't be said for most prescription medications or even over-the-counter meds.
From the article:
Eight in 10 Americans support legalizing marijuana for medical use and nearly half favor decriminalizing the drug more generally, both far higher than a decade ago.
With New Jersey this week poised to become the 14th state to legalize medical marijuana, 81 percent in this national ABC News/Washington Post poll support the idea, up from an already substantial 69 percent in 1997. Indeed the main complaint is with restrictions on access, as in the New Jersey law.
I've done several diaries on cannabis policy, and there are others here writing about this as well. As usual, I recommend www.drcnet.org for the latest on our failed Drug War policies along with updates on recent legislative developments.
[As some of you here know, my position on cannabis policy is to increase voter turnout with ballot initiatives like the one in California '10]
