Happy New Year friends! I hope yours was as good as mine, I visited my Dad and Stepmom in Missouri. We had a grand time with many good meals (two at Imo's pizza). Imo's is a chain out there that I really dig. I don't know if it's just that California pizza is bad, or this stuff is just really good pie but either way it's something I always look forward to. We saw Invictus, it's excellent! And I picked up a couple shows for my TiVo that I've been hearing about but hadn't seen: The Dog Whisperer, Jersey Shore and 30 Rock.
When I got back my carrots, bok choy, broccoli and mesclun were sprouted as was my chia cat grass that I got for Christmas. My cat Lenny was happy to see me and I'm happy to get back to my regular routine. 1st stop, can you guys vote on this poll? (Please vote Alabama, I'll explain why below)
We have great polls from Research 2000 here at dK and they are being used for great things. But we haven't had an Alabama poll and I think one would be excellent. We can get one for nothing by voting in that poll for AL.
Alabama is going to be exciting THIS YEAR.
AL-Gov. Congressman Artur Davis has a good chance to be the first African American Governor of Alabama. Yes I said African American Governor from Alabama. He was recently in Politico's 25 politicians to watch
Davis, who is vying to become the first African-American governor in the Deep South since Reconstruction, has an amazingly delicate balancing act in front of him. First he must win over skeptics in the Alabama Democratic establishment to capture the party nomination in the June primary. But he must do it without compromising his ability to compete as a black candidate in a conservative state where President Obama and the national Democratic agenda are highly unpopular. If Davis manages the feat, he’ll have rewritten all the rules of Southern politics.
I believe Alabama went 61 39 for McCain, so this would be a hell of an accomplishment. But first he has to get passed the more Progressive populist Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks. Sparks recently turned down an opportunity to run in
AL-05. Parker Griffith was elected as a Democrat in '08 but he changed parties at the end of last year. Both high profile candidates that were rumored to run have stated they don't want to. A poll in this district could let us know what their chances would be. And a poll of the Republican primary of Griffith v Right Wing Challenger would be interesting as well.
AL-03. Last year many Kossacks helped raise money and awareness about Joshua Segall's run for Alabama's 3rd seat. He came 7 points from winning, 53-46 with hardly any help from the DCCC or national attention. He was also in his first race for Congress and would have been the youngest Congressman if he were elected. Now that the Presidential race isn't sucking up all the media attention, Josh may be able to turn this winnable district around.
I won't begrudge you if you vote for Florida because I'd like to see Grayson's numbers, and Adam Putnam could sure use a challenge. Not to mention the uber exciting Florida Republican Senate primary between Crist and Marco Rubio. But you know that one will be polled extensively.
UPDATE: Here's one more link to that poll. I crossposted this to the Progressive Electorate. We're 170 votes behind, so I'm gonna need a lot of help. Please tweet, facebook, link to this poll. Thanks again :)
