Give Them Shelter Edition Diary 25 Day 14
Today the traditional media appear to be focusing on the urgent need for emergency shelter for the victims of the Haitian earthquake. As usual this community has outpaced the media by having adopted Shelter Box USA as a primary source of our donations almost immediately after the disaster.
To date this community has donated 107 boxes as stated in the latest Shelter Box diary by amber6541.
Warehouse volunteers continue to pack ShelterBoxes day and night at the ShelterBox HQ in Helston. More than 3,300 ShelterBoxes have been committed so far, enough to help up to 33,000 people.
PLEASE RECOMMEND TO KEEP LINKS ON THE REC LIST.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – The collapse of much of Haiti's capital has a large part of the nation struggling just to find a place to sleep.
As many as 1 million people — one person in nine across the entire country — need to find new shelter, the United Nations estimates, and there are too few tents, let alone safe buildings, to put them in.
That leaves about 700,000 other people living on the streets around Port-au-Prince under whatever they can salvage.

This is the twenty-fifth diary on the earthquake disaster in Haiti. The first diary was by Dallasdoc, previous diaries linked below. The idea is to keep resources visible and easily available for those wishing to donate to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
The following is a comprehensive list of disaster relief links compiled, edited, and updated by the previous diarists. I will update or edit as necessary, but this list exists thanks to hard work of these folks as well as many other members of the Daily Kos community via comments in previous diary versions.
PLEASE RECOMMEND TO KEEP LINKS ON THE REC LIST. (As Dallasdoc noted earlier, these links are being used not only by regular Daily Kos users, but folks who are just coming here looking for ways to help).

If you would like to volunteer to contribute a diary to continue this series, please volunteer in the comments below. Norbrook has created a Google documents file with the source code for our usual introduction and the list of charities the community has developed. Doing one of these diaries, thanks to Norbrook, is not nearly as demanding as it was early in the series. Source Code link: http://docs.google.com/...
Also, updates need to be made far less frequently. You don't need to set aside huge chunks of time for it and it's easy to multi-task if you have other things to do, as long as you're able to check the comments every 30 minutes or so. Please reply to the Tip Jar to be added as a volunteer.
