I found net access in the medical library of the hospital.
Marques is lucky. The blow didn't penetrate the brain tissue. He's awake and aware. He knows who he is and who we are, and even knows the year and month. By late last night, he was even getting his sense of humor back, and he took the opportunity to ask the very pretty police officer who took his statement whether or not she had a boyfriend. I think that's an excellent sign.
There's still some bruising of the brain that they're concerned about, but they're doing another CT scan today, and if things look OK, they're going to transfer him out of surgical ICU and into a regular room.
All of his old fraternity brothers are here to support him, and they're planning to shave their heads in solidarity with him. He's very lucky to be surrounded by a lot of people who love him.
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. My brother is very lucky to be alive right now, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate knowing that so many people had him in their thoughts and prayers.
I took my laptop with me and I spent the night in the surgical ICU waiting room finishing up the Yearly Kos auction listings. It was actually a real blessing to have something to work on in those hours, and frankly, it was also a real blessing to be able to finish something I didn't think I'd have time to finish. Once again, Daily Kos comes through for me in unexpected ways. I think it is entirely possible I may be able to launch the auctions this coming Sunday.
I know this is not exactly the kind of pre-auction promotions we'd planned to do, but sometimes life happens!
You'll want to stay tuned for these auctions, too. They're really, really, really good.
Hug someone you love today.
