The republicans/tea party has said they have 10 points; I thought I’d list them, 2 at a time and give my thoughts and concerns. This is 9 & 10
- Stop the Pork: Place a moratorium on all earmarks until the budget is balanced, and then require a 2/3 majority to pass any earmark.
This one actually makes sense. But I would add one thing that all bills are to be for a single item. From this point forward bills will stand on their own. So if a representative wants to budget for something (earmark) this will have to place in a bill that is voted on.
- Stop the Tax Hikes: Permanently repeal all tax hikes, including those to the income, capital gains and death taxes, currently scheduled to begin in 2011.
There are no tax hikes, just the restoration of where the taxes are suppose to be.
Capital gains taxes should be taxed at the same rate that the person pays one their pay check. Playing the market shouldn’t be a windfall for the person and not for the government.
The death tax is something different altogether. A spouse should inherit without question. No taxes should be paid on the first house, if they own more than one. Money in bank accounts should be transferred to the spouse without tax only if they file taxes as joint married. If they file separate taxes then the surviving spouse must claim money as income, because they didn’t pay taxes on this money. Children, unless minors should pay the equivalent income tax, it is income and should be treated as such.
