So, Tim Kaine, Chairman of the DNC, was on SiriusXM's POTUS channel this morning. I thought to myself, "Well, at least he'll probably stick to the GOTV line..."
Which he did pretty well. I know, surprising (at least I was). But then, host Tim Farley asked a pretty good question. It was along the lines of:
"So, have Democrats written off some races as unwinnable, and are you re-allocating your resources to more winnable races?"
And Tim again did a good job of bringing up the Kentucky senate race.
But then, he said something that pissed me right off (paraphrasing):
"But, you know, we're trying to give all our candidates what they need to be successful this election." (emphasis mine)
I hate to say it, but that's BS. I know, I know, let's not pick on Tim Kaine this close to election day. But you know what? I'm sick of this crap.
You and I who are doing grassroots GOTV and volunteering for these campaigns know that we're not getting all the support we need from the DNC, DSCC or DCCC. Candidates can't even afford to do mailers!
Sure, not every candidate has a race that is "a lock", but when you've out-raised the RNC with record amounts of cash, spend it! In markets like Alaska, a million dollar ad buy will blanket the airwaves. Candidates who already have a war chest need to spend what they have- and our candidates who need the extra help (like just $10,000 to do mailers) should get some of the love.
We have opportunities to continue Howard Dean's 50-state strategy and fund every district's Democrat. Who knows? With the anti-incumbency trend, we might even surprise in a few "safe" Republican districts.
But for Tim Kaine to say that he's doing all he can for all of our candidates, is, in my own opinion,
bullshit.
Donate to candidates today.
