The recent diary by Dawn Josephson, My Backyard Meeting with President Obama got me thinking about how members feel about Daily Kos.
It upset me that the author clearly just did a cut-n-paste, dump-and-run of this piece on DKOS. This was her only diary, she did not respond to any of the comments and her only comment ever on DKOS was the tip jar for this diary.
I'm not upset about her story, in fact just the opposite. I think it is great to hear about success stories for the HIR. What I don't get is the way it was dumped on DKOS and then defended by many as a valid way to behave as a member.
I posted my objections to this dump-and-run in the comments of the diary and got only negative feedback. Several indicating that this is not a community but rather just a blog.
If this is the case, why have diaries at all? If the diarist doesn't stick around to engage comments, why not just link to the story that had already been posted on many other sites?
Here is some feedback to my comments:
What are you blabbering on and on about 'community'? This is just a fucking blog for people to post and no one is obligated to answer your stupid questions.

Another:
What?
She joins and tells her story, so she's trashed for joining and telling her story?
She's trashed for being a good writer and making it to the top of the page?
There are no rules that say someone should stick around, there are lots of people who post and then don't answer questions.
Stop making things up. What is the real problem that you have with this, that it tells the good stuff about some legislation, but think that's a stupid complaint, so you make up some crap about not sticking around to answer eve's stupid questions about how much she really pays for health care? Seriously?
I wish you guys would cut it out for one minute and step out to take a hard look at what you really sound like.
Has DKOS just become a dumping ground for Democratic feel-good stories? Has it really come to that?
