Democrats will lose big (control of the House) in the 2010 midterms because they cannot answer one simple question:
What will you do with the majority in the next two years you did not do in the first two years?
The Democrats have absolutely no plan to sell -- at least I have not seen it. A slogan of "You cannot let the Republicans control" is not very appealing and failing to bring filibuster reform is actually revolting. The Democrats had the House and 60 votes in the Senate. They did get some things done and deserve credit, but I do not know what they plan next.
Tell me exactly what their plan is to lower unemployment? I have not heard it? I have heard the Republicans plan which is the same plan they always sell -- tax cuts. What do Democrats offer? If they have a plan why have they not passed it? Why did they go home for all of October without passing their plan for economic improvement? The answer is they do not have one. I understand that the real fundamental change that is needed is hard to come by, but without even having the debates you inspire no one.
I do not want to see change, but it is certainly going to happen. The loses in the House will be historic, but do not fear nothing will change dramatically just like nothing changed dramatically when the Democrats were in control. As long as Wal-Mart opens tomorrow and the television channels remain in HD no one really cares. Truly. Think of it this way -- Do you think a country with an obesity problem really is motivated by the nuisances of policy in Washington?
Anyway, I regret to say huge loses are coming in the House for the Democrats, but am secure in knowing it won't make any real difference.
