As you know, candidates who air commercials on TV or the radio must state at some point something along the lines of:
My name is Barack Obama and I approved this message.
Through the years we have seen candidates modify this signature line in various ways, perhaps with something like:
My name is Ned Lamont and I approved this message because the thought of six more years of Joe Lieberman drives me effing crazy. (I might be remembering that wrong.)
I think there's something all Democrats should be adding to their commercials from here until November 2nd. Follow...
As Rachel Maddow has pointed out, this Chamber of Commerce story is a political hanging curveball for Democrats and they need to take a big swing at it. Here's how I think they should be ending their commercials now:
My name is Joe Sestak and I approved this message, and I also paid for it with donations from Pennsylvanians like you, not from anonymous corporations or billionaires, foreign or domestic.
That or some variation of it. Hammer this point home. Even if the commercial is about the candidate's love of puppies, use the new signature. Force the Republicans to respond to this over and over again.
If the Democrats let this opportunity slip by, it will be political malpractice. This issue polls extremely well, which isn't surprising since most of our issues poll extremely well. But this one polls even better than most, with over 80% of people agreeing that political donors should be disclosed.
