As a WWE stockholder I just received this communication email from Chairman Vince McMahon specifically referencing his wife's campaign against Richard Blumenthal and calling on WWE fans to "stand up" for the company and, albeit indirectly, for Linda McMahon as well.
I'm sure Vince will justify this as "corporate communications" to its fans as a means to maintain corporate "goodwill". However, by specifying his wife's campaign, and mentioning her opponent by name, I believe Vince went over the line. Clearly there are grounds for a complaint to the FEC as this may be considered an illegal "in-kind" campaign contribution.
Ironically I was one of the lead plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit against WWE a few years ago involving fraudulent practices during the company's initial public offering, so if there are any ambitious, clever lawyers out there who want to take a shot at a class action lawsuit against the WWE and the McMahons in particular for jeopardizing stockholders interests with this reckless campaign I'm available. At the very least the McMahon's should reimburse WWE stockholders for the direct costs, and even indirect costs, of this disastrous marketing campaign.
