Ruth Johnson is running to be Michigan's Secretary of State, a job which, among other things, would make her the watchdog over ensuring political campaigns are being run fairly. Ironically enough, her own campaign keeps getting busted for issuing blatant lies about her opponent, Democrat Jocelyn Benson.
The latest ad, which began airing this week, is one fabricated attack against Benson after another. Let's go through it them one by one!
In Ruth Johnson's World:
The ad starts by claiming that Benson was "Caught red handed in an election fraud scandal" in relation to petitions being distributed for a 'fake' Tea Party.
In the Real World:
Benson was the first candidate to call for an investigation into the incident. In fact, she issued a statement that made it clear how she would handle this incident as Secretary of State.
"Allegations that persons may have unlawfully attempted to place candidates representing a new political party, The Tea Party, on the November ballot should be thoroughly investigated and, if necessary, those persons should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I strongly oppose any attempt to deceive or disenfranchise voters. As I have discussed with Michigan citizens nearly every day for the pasteighteen months, we deserve a Secretary of State who will take an Oath of Non-Partisanship as I have pledged, enforce the law uniformly, and be a neutral judge of the election process."
In other words, she not only had nothing to do with it, but is the only candidate that would like to see the individuals involved prosecuted. Johnson's claim that she was "caught red handed" is ridiculous.
In Ruth Johnson's World:
Benson was responsible for a program accused of training political operatives to fake intimidation.
In the Real World:
This allegation apparently refers to a statement that appeared in a trainingmanual produced by the state Democratic party in Colorado. How Johnson is implying that Benson was involved, let alone responsible for, the statement from Colorado is questionable at best.
In Ruth Johnson's World:
Jocelyn Benson supports same-day voter registration, which would leave us exposed to even more fraud and deception.
In the Real World:
Benson has been clear that her support for same day voter registration is contingent upon Michigan mandating tougher ID requirements to prevent voter fraud.
In Ruth Johnson's World:
With friends like liberal billionaire George Soros, it’ s no wonder they call Benson the next Jennifer Granholm
In the Real World:
This is simply Ruth Johnson using her Republican talking points. She has been called-out for making this statement repeatedly, including by the Detroit Free Press, who stated, "Since winning her party's nod, Johnson has repeatedly insinuated that her opponent is sponsored by billionaire activist George Soros, an allegation not supported by the evidence."
I don't know how much more evidence we need that Ruth Johnson is simply an ultra-partisan politician, not interested in the specifics of the job of Secretary of State, only that it is another step in her political career. She's willing to say anything, whether it's true or not, to get elected. She is NOT who we want running our elections, or ensuring political campaigns are being run clean, because she doesn't know the meaning of the word.
