Our latest addition to Orange to Blue 2010 is Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Raul Grijalva. Please, chip in $5 to his campaign.
Grijalva is in trouble this year because he took a principled stand against racism, and supported the boycott of Arizona following their passage of the hateful SB 1070 law. It takes a lot of guts to support a boycott that could have a negative economic impact on your own district. But, boycotts have proven to be one of the only effective weapons against racist laws in the past, including the boycott against the state of Arizona when it refused to make Martin Luther King’s birthday a holiday.
We absolutely cannot let one of the most progressive members of Congress go down because he stood up against racism. Can you imagine a worse message being sent from the 2010 elections? Don’t let it happen--contribute to Raul Grijalva.
At the Specter-Sestak debate at Netroots Nation in 2009, Susie Madrak said that giving money to Democrats sometimes feels like fooling around with a popular kid under the bleachers. They will make out with you in the shadows, but in public they won’t give you the light of day.
There are no worries about that with Raul Grijalva. You can keep him in Congress with only a small donation, and he who will continue to work with you afterward. Just last week he organized 136 members of the House to oppose any Social Security cuts (PDF). He is an essential link in growing progressive power, and that it probably why Republican outside groups are slamming him with hundreds of thousands in negative ads.
This is a campaign we need to win on principle, we need to win on power, and which we can win with a small amount of money. Only a few thousand dollars will get him the money he needs to run a television ad in the final week, and win the campaign.
Please, contribute $5 or $10 to re-elect Raul Grijalva today.
