As we reach the final ten days before the election, President Bill Clinton continues to prove himself a most reliable and brilliant campaigner.
Seriously, can we just have Bill Clinton run around the country non-stop, appearing on talk radio, the morning TV shows, and at prominent battleground campaign rallies?
"To hear the Republicans tell it, from the second President Obama took his hand off the Bible taking the oath of office, everything that happened after that was his fault. I'd like to see any of you get behind a locomotive going straight downhill at 200 miles an hour and stop it in 10 seconds."
This is a quotation from a Washington Post article entitled, "Former president Clinton on mission to rescue Democratic Party in fall elections." The actual statement took place at a campaign rally earlier this week for Patty Murray (D-WA). I don't know if this has been written about in previous diaries, but I wanted to make sure people here saw it. I caught it this morning on politicalwire.com. I think it speaks to the deceitful nature of the Republican leadership, and unfortunately, the attention deficit disorder of this great nation of ours. Has everyone forgotten who got us into this mess?
By Election Day, Clinton will have traveled to more than 100 events, including one Thursday in Maryland, where he appeared with Gov. Martin O'Malley.
This is very good news. My only fear is that the media, who have already formed a clear opinion about how things should go this election cycle, will do their best to ignore President Clinton.
"It is not a referendum. It. Is. A. Choice," he continued, pausing between each word for emphasis, "a choice between two different sets of ideas." Clinton exhorted the crowd to "keep on being mad. But concentrate your anger so that it clarifies your judgment instead of clouding it. . . . The worst thing you can do right now is bring back the shovel brigade to start digging the hole again."
Damn straight! I mean, is this country going to turn over the reins to the people who are screaming for the exact same policies which led to the biggest economic disaster since the depression??? I swear sometimes I get so disappointed in the American people. I really hope and expect we will avoid disaster by election day. And I hope Bill Clinton's rhetorical skills will be enough to save some of our House and Senate seats.
