The first female Speaker of the House, and LGBT ally, Nancy Pelosi, made a video for Dan Savage's "It Gets Better" project. It's a YouTube video project reaching out to bullied gay teens, telling them that it gets better, and easier, growing up gay. The videos offer testimonials and support for gay teens across the country who may be considering suicide or just may feel alone.
"During this challenging time for so many, you should know that I am on your side," Pelosi said in the video released Friday evening.
There's never a whole lot to say in these diaries, except: could you imagine Speaker Boehner doing something like this? I couldn't - at least not for gay people. Maybe for the suntan-deficient among us.
That makes three powerful government officials who reached out and filmed an addition to Dan Savage's project: Pelosi, Clinton and Obama.
I don't have a transcript but if I find one I'll post it.
