I haven't paid much attention to local politics, but thanks to KOS I have recently become aware of the importance of this. Really, how could I have been so naïve. My daughter told me about a young man, Andrew Rice, running for State Senate here in Oklahoma. He had come to her college class to speak. He is not in my district, so I cannot vote for him, but when I went to his website
Andrew Rice I was totally amazed that we had this quality of candidate right here in Oklahoma. I can't vote for him but I can support him in other ways.
Any of you who are even slightly aware of
Oklahoma politics realize that we are most often the butt of jokes - especially here on KOS. By the way - rightfully so.
Tom Coburn and
more Tom . And there is
Inhofe. And then there is
Istook.
In looking at Andrew Rice's website I read about the 21st Century Democrats. I'm not good at the search tool, so I only found one diary about the 21st Century Democratsby our esteemed Frederick Clarkson.
Candidates with these qualities don't come along very often. Or maybe they do, but I haven't been aware of them. That of course is due to the corporate/republicorrupt media. Thanks to the internet we have another mode of communicating -one that goes AROUND this media (this media that does NOT serve the best interests of America). We should be supporting all of these candidates, as the very future of our country - our planet - depends on it. Support doesn't always mean financial support. We need to get their names out there as being the type of candidates this country wants.
What about writing our own little newsletters and then just mailing them out, or handing them out or posting them on bulletin boards, just telling our friends and family about these candidates. I've printed off a few pages from Rice's website and carry them with me to give them to people I'm having lunch with, dinner with, etc. Just the way that Al Gore had to go one city at a time, one person at a time about the environment, we have to take on this country one person at a time and let them know the extreme importance of voting for candidates that truly care about this country, candidates who are moral and ethical, honest and respectable, candidates of whom we can be proud. I am so tired of being embarrassed by our so-called leaders.
Let's search out these candidates and support them in ways that let whoever-the-hell-it-is who runs this country know that these candidate are who we want and these candidates are who we will support.
