Democrats across the country are facing serious challenges by extremist Republicans who want to take away a woman’s right to choose and privatize the most successful anti-poverty program in America – Social Security.

The only way we can beat them is if we get out the vote.

Since I was elected to the Senate two years ago, with the help of thousands of grassroots progressives (that's you - thank you!), we’ve been working to undo the damage done by decades of deregulation and Wall Street greed run amok.

While so many Americans are struggling to find work, it’s critical we elect Democrats to Congress who aren’t beholden to the big banks, insurance companies and oil companies. The last thing our country can afford is to revert to failed Republican trickle-down economics where millionaires and billionaires get all the special favors while middle-class families suffer.

Last week, I joined “feet on the street” canvasses and volunteer phone banks for Democratic candidates in Oregon. This week, I’ll do the same.   Every vote matters this election and it’s up to us to drive every single progressive vote to the polls.

Whether you're in my home state of Oregon, or one of the 49 others, take a day, or two, or three - and commit to helping get out the vote.  It's just a few hours that will make a difference for years to come.

Big special interests and oil billionaires are pouring millions into attack ads through front groups led by the likes of Karl Rove and former Senator Norm Coleman for one reason: to drive down voter turnout and help Republicans who will support policies that will line their pockets.

There's one thing standing between these secretly funded groups and their very own bought-and-paid-for Congress: you.

This election could mean the difference between handing power over to far right Republicans, or electing Democrats who will fight to improve the lives of working families.   Just  6 days are left so let’s get to work on the phones and doors for your local Democratic candidate.

It's time to Get Out The Vote!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
