All across the internet, people are talking about this video that’s gone viral. Some people think the video caught a time traveler who appears to be talking on a cell phone. Even the mainstream media like CBS is talking about it. Maybe it’s time for us to give an opinion about it as well.
Now maybe this woman is just talking to her hand. People have been known to talk to themselves before. Maybe this is part of an internet hoax and someone just photoshop’d her in or maybe time travel really is possible which is what Einstein said, in theory at least... that time travel is a possiblity.
Whatever the answer is, let’s have a lighthearted chat about it and offer your opinions. Let’s forget about all the bad news about the election and just have a fun chat.
NEW YORK (CBS) Irish filmmaker George Clarke thinks he has spotted something unusual -- a woman talking on a cell phone in a 1928 Charlie Chaplin film. The clip, which was found in the DVD extras of "The Circus," shows a behind-the-scenes look at people attending the film premiere at Manns Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
In one of the scenes a woman in a dark coat is seen walking in the background and holding a thin, black object next to her left ear. When the footage is put into slow motion and zoomed-in, the woman appears to be "talking" into the device.
Stumped for an explanation, Clarke thinks the only plausible theory is that the woman is a time traveler.
If time travelers really existed [and I’m not saying that they really do exist] but if they did, doesn’t it make sense that someone, somewhere, somehow, someday would catch one of them on film with either a cell phone or digital watch? If such a video were ever surface how would we treat it? I am not saying that this video is the real Mccoy but it does look pretty good.
From Washington Post
I saw the grainy video footage, taken from the DVD extras of the Charlie Chaplin film "The Circus." A woman in black boots and a dark coat walks through the background, apparently talking on a cell phone.
If she’s talking to her hand, fair enough but if she’s talking to someone; what is she saying? Maybe she is saying Beam me up Scotty! There’s no intelligence life in this film. Or maybe she really is talking to her hand because there were no cell towers back in 1928 unless of course she’s from a future where you can use a cell phone to talk through time.
Time Magazine – Time Traveler Caught on Film?
It can't be a cell phone — or at least our version of one. The time-traveling woman must have been from further into the future than we are, because her phone seems to work without the help of satellites or towers. NewsFeed has to agree with the New York Daily News, which suggests it could be a hearing aid. They were invented in 1920 and were widely manufactured by 1928. Why is she talking into it? She could be testing the aid, talking to someone near her, or she could just be crazy and talking to herself.

Maybe I should quit writing before this diary starts to sound too silly. But silly or not this is an interactive diary. Back in 1928, who or what do you think she was talking to? No one appears to be in the frame for her to talk to. Is she talking to herself? Is she talking to her hand? What is she saying?
Is this video an internet hoax or is she just photoshop’d in or [now here’s a fun thought] maybe the video is for real. Some speculate that she’s talking into a hearing aid, testing it to see if it works. Is that what she’s doing?
Was Einstein right? Is time travel possible? Who is she really? Nobody knows. There are no experts here, just folks with opinions. What’s your opinion? Everybody is talking about it across the internet, so why shouldn’t we talk about it at the Daily Kos.
On a separate note I'd like to add that I think some smart cell phone provider will buy the rights of this video clip and use it in a TV advert. At least that's my prediction.
UPDATE: World renowned physicist Dr. Michio Kaku is now commenting on this subject matter and he said that possibility of time travel cannot be ruled out.
Time Magazine The Chaplin Time Traveler: What Does Science Say?
On the possibility of time travel:
"There is a loophole in Einstein's equation that even Einstein realized was there. In Einstein's equation, time is a river. It speeds up, meanders, and slows down. The new wrinkle, is that it can have whirlpools and fork into two rivers. So, if the river of time can be bent into a pretzel, create whirlpools and fork into two rivers, then time travel cannot be ruled out."
