My name is Dustin White, and I'm a College Democrat here at Ohio State University. I'm writing to you today from our office on campus, which is bustling with activity today. I've been delegated a Comfort Captain, which entails all sorts of odd jobs. I've made countless cups of hot chocolate for our canvassers, served lunch, given massages, and made sure that our office is clean and tidy. I've been busy today, which is a good sign for Democrats in Ohio. The more canvassers and phone bankers I have to keep comforted, the better.
I'm taking a quick break from all of my odd jobs, though, to ask you for a favor. Ohio State's College Democrats need the resources to ensure that our final four days of Get Out The Vote go well, and that our many volunteers feel like their time is valued and appreciated.
We are working hard. We've registered thousands of people to vote, we've gotten 35,000 people to attend a rally with President Obama, and we've knocked on thousands of doors. But it all comes down to this, the final four days. We've got the manpower to re-elect progressive champions like Mary Jo Kilroy (who graciously stopped by our office earlier today). What we need are the resources.
Can you contribute $10 to help us in these final few days? A $10 donation will provide hot chocolate, water, or snacks to help keep our volunteers hydrated and motivated. It can get downright chilly in Ohio this time of year, I cannot overstate the importance of the hot chocolate.
Can you contribute $50? Your $50 donation will buy us enough pizza for dinner one of the next four nights. If I've learned anything about politics these last few years, it's that nothing retains volunteers more than pizza.
A $100 donation would help us to buy literature for election day that informs students where their polling locations are.
Lastly, a $500 donation would allow us to take out a full-page ad in our campus newspaper and other weekly newspapers reminding them when they can vote and telling them why their vote matters. We'll highlight the pro-student accomplishments of our great Governor, Ted Strickland and our great Congresswoman, Mary Jo Kilroy.
Thanks for any help you can provide. It's back to back massages and hot chocolate for me.
