Scream, yell, rant, cry. Do whatever you need to do, but remember a couple of important things: We still control the Senate and we still have a Democrat in the White House. Not ideal, but the tea party isn't going to do anything even close to what they've threatened. They'll soon be bogged down by a little something called reality.
Let them have their parties. In the morning, Rand Paul will still be clueless, Sarah Palin will still be a virtual joke-writing machine, and Boehner will still be orange. We'll have plenty of things to write about.
It's not what we would prefer, but losing the house was almost inevitable. The margin is getting worse and worse as I write this, but we have another election in two years. In the mean time we can learn from our mistakes and come back stronger. The voters will give us another chance, especially after two years of Republican incompetence and in-fighting.
When you're down, think of all the fun diaries we will write lambasting the "Party of No" as they stumble and fumble and make excuses about why their magic tax cuts didn't create any real work for anyone.
It's politics, but it's not your whole life. Keep plugging away at the things that matter. Stay close to your families. Keep working, or looking for work. Say your prayers if you're so inclined. Write that book. Climb that mountain.
Take some time away from this setback and look at all you have. Then come back and fight to save it.
It gets better. Really. I've been through this before. The work is never done. It's a constant battle, but it's all worth fighting for.
