Now that there will be a Republican controlled House of Representatives full filibuster reform is not a priority. The Democrats will have nothing to pass in the Senate because it will die in the House.
HOWEVER, the Senate must still confirm judges, ambassadors, cabinet posts, etc. The Senate, when it reconvenes in January 2011, should adopt new rules which state that a majority vote can invoke cloture on any item on the Executive Calendar.
Legislation is not a priority and all bills will now have to be a compromise, but appointments is solely a Senate issue and the Democrats better use this opportunity.
My preference would be to eliminate the filibuster for all items, but I do not see that happening and as stated above not that big of a deal anymore -- actually democrats may want to filibuster some legislation that comes through from the House that can pick off a few moderates like Nelson or Lieberman.
