The Washington State Dems and Patty Murray campaign held a conference call this afternoon to update reporters on the ballot count, to reiterate their confidence that Murray would win, and to caution that there could be a point tonight when Rossi took the lead because of the counties yet to report. That briefly happened this afternoon, when Spokane county votes were tallied, but the GOP celebration was short-lived when a chunk of King County votes were posted.
Sen. Patty Murray extended her lead over Dino Rossi Wednesday as she continued to outperform her Republican rival in voter-rich King County.
The incumbent's advantage was just over 25,000 votes after King and other counties posted results of an afternoon count. As of early Wednesday morning, Murray's statewide lead had been 14,005 votes out of 1,430,787 cast.
In King County, Murray's advantage over Rossi was 88,751 votes after Tuesday's first tally. As of Wednesday afternoon, it was 105,639 - a pickup of 16,888 votes....
King County counted more than 50,000 votes Wednesday. Officials estimate about 300,000 ballots remain to be recorded in King, the state's largest county by far.
It's not very likely that Rossi will overtake Murray again at this point, as the massive King County ballot count continues. Since ballots will still be coming in from all over the state in the next few days, final results are unlikely this week.
