Now that MSNBC has suspended Keith Olbermann will the GOP and the Righteous Right, who staunchly defended Jaun William’s when he was fired from NPR, now rush to Keith’s defense for not telling MSNBC about a few political donations?
To be honest, I like Keith, but I don’t really care all that much when rich guys get fired. I worry much more about the lower classes getting canned. But where will the typical defenders of the rich stand, now that the proverbial shoe is on the left foot?
From the HuffPost:
"I became aware of Keith's political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay," MSNBC president Phil Griffin said in a statement.
If the Williams’ episode was a case of NPR denying his right to free speech, what about Keith’s right to remain silent about his political leanings? Just because he does it on TV almost every single night, does that mean he has to disclose every political thing he does? And, can you really believe that this guy Griffin has just now become aware that Keith Olbermann might possibly give money to a Democrat?!
Isn’t it also important to protect the freedom to contribute to your favorite politician? You would think that since the GOP has nice-warm feelings about undisclosed contributions and would leap at the chance to protect Keith’s right to make them. After all, they have quite successful raking in tons of undisclosed cash.
Now we will find out if the Right feels the same as they do about disclosing the donations to us taxpayers, as they do about us being forced to disclose contributions to our employers. My guess is that they will be fine with forcing us to disclose donations to the Boss, so she can make sure to level the playing field for her own politician.
Also, I want to know if other MSNBC employees, who made undisclosed contributions, have been subject to the same discipline? And, has MSNBC checked all their employees for such contributions? If so, I would think that might be impeding someone’s freedom of speech at bit.
Still, considering the GOP undying love for undisclosed contributions, I would fully expect that the Professional Conservative Criers of TV and Radio to be in full swing on this issue and rush to defend Keith.
So; Rush, Glenn, Bill, and so on, and on; are you outraged?
