Maybe it was always this way. Maybe we've always had stupid people supporting greedy, amoral fucks and a small minority (or more likely, a disenfranchised and alienated majority) believing in people, progress and truth.
But I don't know. Maybe America has always been about empire building pure and simple, just in a different way than England and Rome of the past empires. And that's the only reason the tired, huddled masses came -- we were the best game in town. China will now usurp us as we de-evolve into pioneer infantilism.
So maybe it's too much for me to ask for a president many, many people gave big chunks of their lives to get elected, who's election truly was a miracle, to fucking just give the American people the truth and nothing but truth for once. It's the least those supporters deserve.
Like what, for instance?
Like calling the Iraq war for what it was and is -- a barbarous attempt at using a tragedy to make an even bigger and more grotesque one. I don't know about you, but everytime W and every dumbass who repeated his line about "Freedom isn't free" I just substituted the word "oil" for "freedom."
Truth.
Instead, Mr. Obama has to pretend W is some noble creature of democracy instead of the war criminal him and his cronies truly are. Obama -- the candidate who was against the war before it even started -- now gets young people killed every fucking day for another war for no reason -- Afghanistan. Amazing.
I'm tired of our political "leaders" pulling punches. But we all know why they do. Because the corporate media sets the stage on what is "acceptable" behavior and discussion, and what isn't. And if you don't play their game, you're not seen as "reasonable" and you don't get corporate money. We saw what happened with Dean while Rand Paul says crazy shit every day and gets elected.
So it's all FUBAR, and a cluster, and a sad America. And it's only going to get worse as America circles the drain in some bullshit Western movie fantasy while the corporations move in for the last fatal kill.
Bravo, dumbasses. And all those on the "left" who never went on the OFFENSIVE and took it to the right and corporate media. Because that would work. To take it to them harder and smarter than they take it to you. American politics. A barroom brawl of words.
Amazing that Michael Moore can't be seen with the President but that pimple on humanity Rush Limbaugh spent nights in Republican White Houses.
Mr. Obama, you had millions on your side who never participated in the political system. You could've truly changed the system. I'm not a black man and I shouldn't judge but I sometimes think you never truly grasped the sacrifices made by King, Malcolm and other antecedents. They fought like tigers to improve the lot of people. I didn't believe in the "magic Negro" canard of both the right and the Beltway left. I believed in a man who had all the smarts and charm to defeat the right-wing spin machine and corporate interests because he actually had the new Silent Progressive Majority participating and on his side.
I can't imagine what it must feel like to have all those talents and skills - and all that populist support -- but no aggressive, imaginative, fighting spirit.
I have never agreed with Karl Rove until his quote this week: that Obama has nowhere near the political skills of Bill Clinton.
There's still time to prove Rove wrong, Mr. President. But that would take you ignoring the Beltway and actually believing in the people who elected you.
I ain't holding my breath.
