George W. Bush, after a year and a half of silence as Barack Obama struggled to clean up the mess that was passed to him by Georgie Boy, has opened his fucking mouth.
Claiming Barack Obama has made "a real mess" with U.S. relations with Pakistan is just one absurd thing that he said. Hearing that George W. Bush has "worries" about Obama's Afghan policy is just laughable. And no, those worries aren't based on the fact that the U.S. has raised the stakes by more than doubling the number of troops or more-than-doubled the number of drone strikes in the tribal areas of Pakistan.
We are still there, and Osama bin Laden is still free, because of this dumb ass sonuva.
Hamid Karzai is President of Afghanistan because George W. Bush basically annoited him. Not only that, but George W. Bush, who's foreign policy was all about personal relationships with foreign leaders, let Karzai get around every other U.S./NATO official by constantly invoking his special relationship with the U.S. President. A mistake Obama did not repeat.
Bin Laden escaped Tora Bora because of poor and difficult-to-understand decisions from the very top, explained by none other than "Dalton Fury" himself- the special forces' operator that was tasked with getting bin Laden at Tora Bora, and who got none of what he had requested. They were not given the U.S. Ranger reinforcements that had been requested, they were not allowed to drop behind the lines between the militants(including OBL) and the Pakistani border, they were not allowed to directly engage the al Qaeda militants, and they were not given the mines they had requested to trap the militants before they could reach Pakistan. This was all very thoroughly explained on "Why Is Bin Laden Alive?" by Dalton Fury. The way he said it, it sounded almost like it was coming out of Jesse Ventura's mouth as a way to explain the propability of a conspiracy theory to keep bin Ladena alive.
The insurgents were able to stage a comeback because Bush diverted tremendous resources, not just troops but funding and intelligence as well, from Afghanistan to support the war-for-oil in Iraq. They staged the comeback during his watch and he did nothing- NOTHING- about it. Bush's own ambassador to Afghanistan, Robert Neumann, famously said that he wanted to drop a JDAM on Bush's OBM office. Bush let Afghanistan, like many other aspects of American policy, go to complete shit while he waited to pass them on to the next President of the United States.
The fact that Pakistan has been supporting the Afghan Taliban, Haqqani Network, Hizb-i-Islami Gulbuddin, and various other militant groups is not some new development. This was happening while George W. Bush was President, even after he told the world that you are either with us or against us. Heck, there were a number of recorded incidents of Pakistani security forces actively firing on American positions during the time of Bush's administration.
George W. Bush's foreign policy regarding Pakistan was to support Musharraf and to launch the occasional drone strike or special forces raid. Pakistan's growth of anti-American sentiment is not some new phenomenon that only occurred when Barack Obama took office. They gave him Khalid Sheik Mohammad, and that was about it. Obama's drone program, a proposal that Bush once criticized, has done far more damage to al Qaeda Central than Bush ever did.
Maybe Bush should go watch that new movie Fair Game. Maybe he'll begin to realize that he's a fucking jackwad who should have just kept his mouth shut while the grown-ups try to fix his many messes.
